  • Essiac tea has an interesting history dating back to the early 1920’s in Canada. Rene Cassie was a nurse who, following the advice from an old Native American Indian medicine man, formulated a tea that she dispensed from a cancer clinic in Ontario. She had support from the medical profession, in particular Dr Frederick Banting, the co-discoverer of insulin. Essiac tea has become widely known for its remarkable ability to boost the immune system and detoxify the body. I have followed the original recipe and used Burdock root, which is an effective blood purifier that neutralizes and eliminates poisons from the body. Sheep Sorrel contains a natural substance that research has shown to have significant anti-leukemic activity. Slippery Elm is well known for its soothing and healing properties and Turkey rhubarb root has been shown in research to have anti-tumor activity. It is diuretic, anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial. In blending the organic herbs to the original Essiac recipe I have used the milled root to enable you to make the tea as an infusion rather than boiling it as a decoction. (*See original boiling directions below) That means you can make my blend by adding a teaspoon of the herbs to a teapot and pouring over boiling water. It makes it very easy to manage. Milling the roots does not detract from the potency so you can be assured that the organic herbs used in the Essiac tea you purchase are just as potent whether boiled as a decoction or brewed as an infusion. (An infusion is what you make when you put a tea bag in a cup with hot water) This tends to extract vitamins and volatile oils from leaves and flowers. A decoction is used to extract these components from hard materials such as roots, bark or seeds by boiling and then allowing herbs to steep for several hours. Original directions: Do not use an aluminium pot or unfiltered, chlorinated water. Add 15gms (1 tabs) of herbs to 1.5 litres of pure spring water. Boil for 10 mins, then steep for 12 hours (overnight). Heat up the tea to steaming, bot boiling (Do not boil twice). Strain the tea into hot sterilized jars and allow to cool. Refrigerate once it has cooled. Filter through a fine sieve. the Slippery Elm gives the tea a slight viscous consistency when poured. If you do not notice the "slippery" consistency after refrigerating your tea, you may be using a sieve that is too fine. Herb particles in your Essiac tea will settle to the bottom of the jar and the pulp can be used for healing poultices. Some people drink the dregs, some give it to their pets as a health food. Drink 30ml of herb tea diluted in 30 or 60ml of water, taken first thing in the morning and at bedtime. Not: Essiac tea is a mild colon cleanser. Nurse Cassie’s story is well worth looking up as she had support from some very eminent medical people. Ingredients: Burdock root, Sheep Sorrel, Slippery Elm powder & Turkey rhubarb. Please note: 100 gm packets.

  • Matcha Green tea is a potent, high-quality green tea that boosts energy, helps you to stay alert but calm and is rich in chlorophyll and minerals. Here's what a customer told us from what she observed in her son. "I have a 24 year-old son who has been drinking Matcha green tea every day for 12 months and it has dramatically evened out his moods and he is more settled. He makes a soup mug of it every day. He works a busy and stressful job and was always very anxious. I have watched him become calmer and better able to cope in his job and in life. It’s the best medicine. I would recommend drinking the Matcha Green tea to any young person, especially if they suffer from anxiety or stress related job." This is how Matcha Green tea is processed. Before harvesting the green leaves, some of the crop is covered so that when deprived of sunlight, the plant will over produce chlorophyll. When the leaves are dried, they are then pulverized to make a powder so when you make a brew, you ingest the whole of the plant, rather than making a tea with the leaves, discarding the leaves and drinking the liquid. There are absolutely no preservatives, colorings or flavourings in these herbal teas and from each packet you will get a minimum of 100 cups of tea.

There is a real dynamic between sugar and the gut and sugar is always the common link when there is skin irritation. You can read more about skin issues on my website Blog "More than skin deep." For teenagers with acne, I recommend they eliminate dairy from their diet because their liver is not processing dairy fats and is using the skin to help to eliminate the fats. Drinking the skin tea to help clean the blood and replacing dairy with nut milks will make a significant difference. These herbs are a tonic so they can help in many ways. Make the herbs into a hot infusion by steeping for between 5-10 minutes, and consume immediately. Or allow to cool and consume cold, this can easily be placed in a water bottle and sipped on during the day. Cooking with herbs adds flavour and have a therapeutic benefit for your food. Lightly fry a tablespoon of herbs in a little oil then continue with your recipe. • A simple herbal tea with the main ingredient, Oatstraw, which is a nerve tonic. Mixed with Peppermint for a delicious creamy flavour and the herb, Yarrow, which can help with the circulatory system. This is a herbal tea that may help settle the restless legs feeling. Taking a magnesium supplement at night will help as well ( restless legs is caused by a severe magnesium deficiency) and replacing caffeinated drinks with RESTLESS LEGS tea during the day. I suggest drinking RESTLESS LEGS tea during the day because for some people, Peppermint can be stimulating. (For some people it is calming) This is what Keith of Bairnsdale had to say about it. “ I was doing a lot of driving and often had irritable legs. I’ve been drinking this tea for 18 months now and I just don’t get restless legs anymore. I drink it once a day after work but more sometimes because I like it. Highly recommend it.” Thanks Keith. This herbal tea may assist with a range of urinary issues, including prostate disorders and cystitis. The Epilobium soothes the bladder, Pau D’Arco is anti-fungal and anti-septic and the Saw Palmetto and Siberian Ginseng can soothe the kidneys. May be helpful for urinary urgency and to reduce frequent night time bathroom visits. The main ingredient I have used in the Prostate tea blend is Epilobium which has a very interesting story. When I designed this tea blend, I took the lead from renowned Australian herbalist, Hilde Hemmes. It was through a German herbal book that Hilde made the connection between the herb Epilobium and prostate issues suffered by many men. The prostate gland is found only in men and by the age of 50 years it is estimated that nearly a third of men will experience some symptoms of an enlarged prostate. Prostate enlargement is the most common prostate disorder but when this develops into prostatitis, which is inflammation, it can become a very serious health issue. A great endorsement for this herb is by some very prominent Australians who have used it and sung its praise, including Bob Jane, the motoring magnate, Pro Hart, a renowned artist and best of all, Smoky Dawson, one of Australia’s living legends, who wrote a song extolling the efficacy of Epilobium. Other ingredients in this tea are Saw Palmetto, another herb that can help with decreasing the symptoms of an enlarged prostate, Pau D’Arco, an anti-fungal herb, which is also anti-inflammatory and helps to boost the immune system and Siberian Ginseng which helps to soothe inflammation in glands, including the prostate gland. Replacing caffeinated drinks with this tea and drink it once a day will make a significant difference. • Hot flushes and night sweats – what every middle aged woman dreads. These are symptoms caused by the hypothalamus gland responding to fluctuating levels of estrogen in the blood. Sage is the herb for the flushing woman because it helps to reduce the “power surges” when the unexpected hot flush happens randomly. Combined with Lemon Balm, which is calming, Yarrow, to help control the circulatory system and Red Clover to help regulate the hormones this is a herbal tea that can help women manage their “change of life” experience. For night sweats, drinking this tea in the evening may be helpful. Drinking sufficient filtered water is a must (min 2 litre a day) to ensure the body is hydrated and minimising caffeinated drinks (coffee/black tea/soft drinks) is important to allow the body to function efficiently. This is vital because from the many women I talk to about their menopause experience, it seems the women who drink caffeine drinks and don't hydrate with water often have the toughest time during the change of life. Make the changes to ease the change. This is what some customers have to say about this tea: I bought the MENOPAUSE tea and I've been having a pot of it every evening for the past month and it’s been great. I have been having a lot less "flushes" so I have been able sleep a better. Awesome!" - Bernie from Lakes Entrance (Vic). And Tessa from Warragul (Vic) "I have been taking a synthetic hormone supplement from the menopause clinic for 5 years. After drinking the MENOPAUSE tea for a month, I cancelled the supplements. The tea is working better. I couldn't be happier These herbs are a tonic so they can help in many ways. Make the herbs into a hot infusion by steeping for between 5-10 minutes, and consume immediately.
